Microsoft, Intel Back HD DVD Format
September 30, 2005
On September 27 Microsoft and Intel announced their support for the HD DVD format. Microsoft intends to integrate HD DVD drivers in its next-generation operating system with the possibility of allowing its new Xbox game console to play HD DVD discs so as to better compete with Sony's PlayStation. According to Microsoft and Intel, their decision was based on the capability of copying video to a hard drive or home server, low production costs, and superior capacity.
